Team Startup/Product Design Project

This project was intended to create a design firm and launch product in order for us to learn about entrepreneurship as well as full product design. For this project, we were able to pick our teams. Myself and a business major immediately teamed up as the founders of the company and pitched a company ideal rather than a product idea. We thought that the people who make the company should determine the direction of the type of product that would cater to the teams' skillset and interests. We also looked for team members of varying discipline to widen the company abilities.

The team decided to move into the space of travel safety and security. After a lot of user research and ethnography, we determined to tackle the problem of people losing their items on the go or struggling to reach them with ease. Additionally, the company values protecting a person's valuables from damage or being stolen. This led us to the Travel Pouch Mini. One teammate had strengths in sewing, while the mechanical engineers designed and 3D printed the clip mechanism. I helped with this mechanism and also served as a project manager, overseeing the timeline, tasks, and overall direction and brand of the company.

At the end of the project, we presented our projects to the design executives of IBM in two presentations: a product pitch and a product reveal. The first was a trade-show style where we set up a booth for the potential investors to walk around and ask questions. The final presentation was a Shark Tank style presentation where we showed off our product to receive interests from potential investors through showing off our video, poster, and website.
