DAPR Engineering
Summer 2019

DAPR Engineering is a small engineering consulting firm in Nashua, NH. They specialize in automation and industrial equipment as well as providing engineering consulting services on any product development endeavor. They focus on engineering as the foundation of the design process in every project they do.

 

My goal for this internship was to really develop and practice my Mechanical Engineering skills. Since DAPR is such a small company with a total of about 30 people, I was able to interact with so many experienced engineers, designers, and technicians, from whom I learned so much. I also looked forward to seeing what working in a small company culture was like compared to a large company like Hasbro.

I was able to create multiple parts in SolidWorks to contribute to assemblies for a wide variety of machines. I completed calculations and engineering analysis to determine the loads and torque requirements for a motor and linear actuators to allow for a pick and place mechanism. I worked on a machine that automated putting bottle caps on spray bottles by participating in continuous process development and testing; constantly adjusting parameters and taking data to find an appropriate process that would work 98 percent of the time. I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to install this machine at the client's location on the assembly line. This was a high stakes environment, where problems would arise and the team would have to think on our toes to solve them. I also helped assemble various machines, learned a lot about projects that I was not working on, and feel much more comfortable understanding what goes into designing and engineering a part or machine.

Finally, I volunteered to create the company a new website. I set up many meetings with various members of the company to compile and organize technical information into an intuitive flow that would make it easy for clients to find what they are looking for.
