What does it mean when you major in "PDI" or "DIS"?
PDI stands for Programs in Design and Innovation. It essentially means that one is majoring in a combination of two things with one being DIS. In my case, I major in Mechanical Engineering as well as DIS under the PDI Program. PDI allows for the understanding and application of design knowledge to, in my case, mechanical engineering. Therefore enhancing my engineering knowledge with the ability to understand the specific design impacts a design may have on a person or environment.
I created the images on this page as an exercise in one of our studios to learn how to market our program to incoming students
DIS stands for Design, Innovation, and Society. This major is largely social science design. We understand how to design our products with the user at the center. We learn about how people interact with products or systems on a deeper level in terms of the emotional responses it generates. Through a series of six studios, each with a different focus, one graduates holding this major and the knowledge of a broad range of design in all forms.
